2016 – Year of the Monkey preliminary

Abstract: I predict the US will experience a difficult and possibly disastrous Year of the Fire Monkey in 2016, perhaps similar to 1968.
Oriental term is jinx. If you want the ‘love, light and harmony’ [h/t Brugh Joy] version, read someone else! Tedious details follow. I MAY be less negative on the US outlook in later revisions to this Monkey Year forecast, but doubt it.

Rats and dragons, compatible with Monkeys should experience a very good to great year. Pigs, pretty good, 2 on a scale of 1>6.
Horses and Tigers – NOT SO MUCH. See the compatibility chart below.

Timing: Chinese New Year – Year of the Fire Monkey begins at the New Moon on 8 February 2016 at 9:39 AM EST.
The Chinese animal year begins each Western year about 4 February - it does not begin at the Chinese New Year. Those born 3, 4 or 5 February should consult http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/Chineseastrology.htm to correctly ascertain their Chinese animal sign.

The first day of the animal year is different from the Chinese New Year Day. The animal year starts on the first day of the Tiger month. Tiger month begins from the day when Sun enters ecliptic 315 degree position, which is around February 4 Gregorian calendar. That means the animal month is solar month, not lunar month. For an even more thorough discussion of the animal and Chinese New Year see http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/clc/LunarCalendar.htm

How Oriental Astrology works: Oriental astrology is essentially “good luck” astrology in that it tracks the planet Jupiter, considered to be one’s Greater Fortune. Jupiter takes 12 years to transit the zodiac of 12 signs. Therefore, in whatever year you were born, every 12 years when your Oriental zodiac animal year returns, the planet Jupiter will be in the same sign it was when you were born. Jupiter is called Guru in Hindu astrology and is considered your spiritual teacher.
Thus, roughly speaking, ALL Rabbits [Cat] have Jupiter in Aries; Dragons, Jupiter in Taurus; Snakes, Jupiter in Gemini; Horse, Jupiter in Cancer; Sheep [Goat], Jupiter in Leo; Monkey, Jupiter in Virgo; Rooster, Jupiter in Libra; Dog, Jupiter in Scorpio; Pig, Jupiter in Sagittarius; Rat, Jupiter in Capricorn; Cow [Ox], Jupiter in Aquarius; Tiger, Jupiter in Pisces.
AND because when Jupiter returns to the place it was when you were born that causes an expansion of the “good luck” in your horoscope. Some signs have more innate “good luck” than others, so the Oriental animal year is more important to some signs than others. Because Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, Horses probably experience more increased good luck during Horse year than other signs do in theirs.

Incidentally, I have never seen this derivation of Oriental astrology anywhere – I arrived at it myself.

Compatibility legend

1 excellent     2 successful     3 – good     4 – fair     5 – awkward     6 – clash

We can construct a rough ‘affability quotient’ for the signs by summing the compatibilities of each of the 12 signs with each of the other. Thus,
Rat – 36
Ox – 39
Tiger – 45
Rabbit – 37
Dragon – 37
Snake – 38
Horse – 40
Goat – 40
Monkey – 35
Rooster – 43
Dog – 38
Pig - 31

Tigers are, by quite a bit, the most self-centered and difficult to get along with followed by fractious Horses and picky Goats – Pigs by far the most affable. Using the compatibility table it is possible to make rough estimates on how your year will go. When it is your year it is invariably transforming and expansive - sometimes too much so. When it is the opposite of your year, that is, 6 years away, it can be restrictive and inharmonious.

A Few Predictions

United States: Preliminarily, for a first post done at a somewhat inauspicious time of Moon void of course, I will concentrate only on the main Monkey in everyone’s life, the United States. The Chinese prediction linked above is http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/2016/2016Monkey.htm

When Monkey meets monkey it is inauspicious.

The ancient lunar New Year is THE New Year celebrated by most of the world. Think Magh Mela in India and Tet in Viet Nam. Remember 1968 Tet Monkey New Year? Read up on it. A good source is General Vo Nguyen Giap, The Military Art of the People’s War. Giap is the General who defeated three of the major world powers in a period of 30 years in their, the major powers, insurgency in Vietnam. These powers were Japan, colonial France and the United States.

The Oriental prediction for Monkeys in a Monkey year includes “That is a sign of jinx in Chinese horoscopes when a Monkey meets another Monkey. That means people born in the year of Monkey won't have good luck during any Monkey years. The scene is that if a Monkey is passing by a land with a local Monkey tyrant in charge. If the traveling Monkey can keep quiet, then it will be safe and pass the land. If the traveling Monkey wants to mess with or challenge the tyrant, then trouble will come to the traveling Monkey during its journey.

Can you think of any tyrant’s through whose lands the US Monkey may be operating? The US has the possibility of getting its ass kicked severely in its idiotic 15 year and continuing Middle East struggles. One of the “Presidential” candidates stated he would make the sands of Syria glow from carpet bombs. Going back to Gen. Giap, “take it for granted air power will never decide the outcome of a war.”

“Monkey contains Metal and Water. Metal is connected to gold. Water is connected to wisdom and danger. Therefore, we will deal with more financial events in the year of the Monkey. Monkey is a smart, naughty, wily and vigilant animal. If you want to have good return for your money investment, then you need to outsmart the Monkey. Metal is also connected to the Wind. That implies the status of events will be changing very quickly. Think twice before you leap when making changes for your finance, career, business relationship and people relationship.

The word cloud from the paragraph above includes gold, water, danger and wind. The following prediction from my Twitter feed MAY be related: carlosjii ‏@carlosjii  Dec 16

2015 - Year of the Sheep

2015 - Year of the Sheep

Simplistically, use 4 February as the start of the Chinese animal year. Thus the Chinese Year of the Goat or Sheep has begun!
Revision 1 – Feb 16

A Few Predictions

Those born in the Year of the Sheep or Goat are looking at overwhelmingly transformative years. Look at what happened in Sheep years past! 1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003.
Bill Gates –
Kris Jenner -
Maria Shriver – Hard to keep this Scorpio down

Sheep’s opposite sign Ox will have an inharmoniously transformative year.
A few Ox persons to keep watch on:
Barack Obomba –Relationship? See Bibi below
Bruce Jenner – Yo, Bruce [Brucella], get a reading!
Netanyahu – Get a grip Bibi. Your karma is coming to bite you in the ass! See also my 3/17/15 prediction for Bibi http://astrolos.blogspot.com/2014/10/more-astrological-musings-on-disruptive.html
Nawaz Sharif – [Only 10% of Americans have EVER had a passport. Few probably know this major leader.
John Boehner – ditto
Heidi Klum -
George Clooney – [she’s not going to have a kid]

Rabbits, Horses, and Pigs should have very good to good years due to their affinity to Sheep!

For myself: As a Horse I should do fine as Sheep is a #2 compatibility to me. HOWEVER, multiple indications are for health issues and possibly work problems. At a younger age, say 71, I would have ignored this BUT after taking a 14 mile hike a year ago and then falling on the floor unexpectedly with an apparent hernia, I remember the saying from REV 22:12 ‘And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.’
